Taurus, which surprises people who expect a Water Guardian to be swept along. She is the most grounded being in the Fellowship.

Spectaculacular. She made it up. The Fellowship stopped noticing years ago because it simply sounds correct.
Eats
Real food, made properly, never rushed. She will take three hours over a meal if the meal deserves three hours. It usually does.

Page 247. She keeps annotated lists of everything she has ever read, and she remembers all of it, which occasionally alarms people.
Strong Opinions About
How certain series ended. She will share them if you ask. She will also share them if you do not ask. This is the one place her restraint fails.
In A Fight
She sees the second sword before you find it. She is not the one swinging. She is the one who tells you where to look, one beat before you needed to know.
Will Not Do
Pretend she did not notice. She will apologize before she names the thing. She will name the thing regardless. Both parts are sincere.

Marina extends the benefit of the doubt one beat past where it is safe, and she knows she does it. She has decided the alternative is becoming someone she does not want to be, and that the cost is worth paying. She is extraordinary at asking other people the real question. She is still working on asking it of herself. She would like you to know she is figuring this out alongside you, not teaching from some finished place on the other side of it.

The depth in you is not a liability. Here is what it actually is.

You understand people on a level most cannot access.
Marina sees the second sword before you find it. So do you. You notice the real need underneath the stated need.
You track emotional subtext the way other people track facts, in business, relationships, and creative work. This is what makes you irreplaceable.

You tell the truth with kindness, and that combination is rarer than it sounds.
You do not weaponize honesty. You do not soften it to the point of uselessness either.

You absorb other people's emotional weather.
Someone close to you is having a hard week, and suddenly so are you, and it took you three days to realize the feelings were not yours.
You have a leaky boundary situation, and it costs you energy you need for your own work and life.
Work With It
Develop the habit of a check-in before you are depleted. Whose feelings are these? Are they yours, or did you borrow them? You can care deeply without carrying everything. Marina would tell you: you are the water, not the thing drowning in it.
You give until there is nothing left, then apologize for being tired.
You are the one people come to. You know this. You mostly do not mind it until you do.
The crash, when it comes, is hard, because you are not built to refuse people, and so you run all the way to empty before you stop.
Work With It
Capacity is not a character flaw. Build your "not right now" muscle in low-stakes situations so it exists when you need it in high-stakes ones. Fill your own well first, because you are useless to everyone when it is empty.
You overthink what you put out into the world.
The thing is almost done. You have read it eleven times, and you are reading it again now.
There is a version of this that lives on your hard drive forever while you make it more perfect, and the people who needed it never see it.
